Biography

Background

Originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, I qualified as an Art Teacher in Limerick in 1979, specialising in sculpture. After moving to the UK, I established, taught at and managed a thriving Arts Centre for adults with physical disabilities for 20 years. Having retired from my additional career as an assistive technology consultant in 2018, I now focus on sculpture as my main pursuit.

Media

Clay was the main medium for my early artwork, where I made my own moulds and produced limited editions of my work in resin-bronze/aluminium/marble/slate and/or iron. I enjoy working with wood (including driftwood) as I seek to allow the natural characteristics of the material to guide the final outcome.

In more recent years, I have explored the creative possibilities of working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Cutting, bending and welding these metals is a challenging yet highly rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Exhibitions

A number of my sculptures are held in private collections in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Australia. As a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society, I exhibit regularly throughout the South East of England.  I also exhibit with Art Surrey in their major events.

Commissions

I am happy to consider commissions for small or large-scale work.  For contact information please go to the Contact Details page.

Studio Visits

I work from my studio in Surrey and would be delighted to show visitors around and explain the processes involved in creating and casting my work.  The kettle is always on and a hearty Irish welcome awaits my visitors.
