Biography

Background

Originally from Kilkenny in Ireland, I qualified in Limerick as an Art Teacher in 1979, specialising in sculpture.

After moving to the UK I set up, taught in and managed a thriving Arts Centre for adults with physical disabilities for 20 years.

Media

MI work my original designs in clay as my preferred medium. Making my own moulds, I produce limited editions of my work in resin Bronze, Aluminium, Marble, Slate, Iron, etc. Wood is another medium I enjoy working in - I try to let the natural characteristics of the wood dictate the final outcome.

In recent years I have explored the creative possibilities of working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Cutting, bending and welding these metals is a challenging yet enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Exhibitions

A number of my sculptures are held in private collections in the UK, Ireland and Holland. As a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society, I exhibit regularly throughout the South East of England e.g. Polesden Lacey (Great Bookham), Harvey Gallery (Guildford), Riverhouse (Walton), Denbies Vineyard (Dorking), Vivartis (Witley).
