Higher, Daddy! Higher!

When my children were young they loved it when I threw them into the air and caught them - the higher, the better. Their faces showed both terror and exhilaration in equal measures. They couldn’t get enough. They would shout ‘Again Daddy, Higher, Higher’. It’s a joy to now see them do the same with their children and I get to do it all again with my grandchildren.

This 4.5 meter tall steel sculpture aims to capture, through a simplistic linear design, the thrill of that moment. The elongation and exaggerated distance between the parent and child serves to create an emotional connection with the piece.
