Transition

A narrative woodcarving in maple.

Starting with a low relief head based on a foetal scan of the artist's son. Awakening to the outside world, the newborn takes his/her first breath. The mother and toddler's interaction is encompassed by the Father's right hand. Youthful facial complexion gives way to the textured features of an elderly person’s hand and low relief face - completing the transition or cycle of life.
